I arranged my composition with five different bottle on top of two boxes covered with a sheet. I attempted to use as much value as I could in the piece, coupled with as much detail as I could incorporate. The peaks and valleys of the sheet were appropriately shaded so that the valleys were the darkest and the peaks the lightest. The shadows of the composition began darker near the bottle and lighter the farther the shadow was from the base. Overall, I believe that this was a successful composition due to the incorporation of necessary techniques. Did you use a wide range of values? (A range from white to black with at least 9 values). Explain how is this evident? My use of various value can be seen in the contrast between the areas near to the bottom of the bottle and the highlights on the lighter side of the bottle. Explain how your knowledge and creating practice studies with value contributed to your piece. From the start, I knew the very basic idea that the side with the light shining on the object is going to be lighter on that side. Over time the studies in class helped give me the ability to give value to the objects included in my composition. Describe the blending and transitions in your objects (discuss your use of pressure with pencil and other techniques to achieve this). The best way to describe my use of shading is layering. I began with a base layer of soft-pressure shading that would contour to the object's shape. Over time the darker areas would need to be gone over with a layer that consisted of heavier pressure on the pencil. Once done, i would go over the composition the blend any banding that i could see while doing my best to go from soft to heavy pressure to match the correct shade of that specific area. Explain how your interpretation of texture is essential in capturing the look of the object. To me, the composition consisted of mostly glossy bottles and a matte sheet. To try and portray this glossy finish on the bottle, it was essential that the bottles had the highlights in the right places. For the sheet, it was necessary to keep a very gradual gradient, just as a thin sheet would have. If you could recreate your pieces what would you do differently to enhance the final outcome? If I were to do the composition again, I would change the angle at which I was viewing the bottles from. The awkward angle of the top box proved difficult in drawing the sheets correct folding. |
